Windows Vista and Windows 7 - What Happened?
(updated Oct. 2011)

Unless you have been living in the proverbial cave or are brand new to computers, you know that Microsoft released Windows 7 in October of 2009.Their previous version of their popular operating system, WINDOWS VISTA, was a complete disaster and is dying on the vine as we speak, thank goodness!! Now there have been various versions of Windows on computers over the past many years. Windows 3.0 was the first really popular version. Then came others like Windows 95, 98, ME, and the one that lasted the longest, Windows XP. But Microsoft decided we needed a new version of Windows and Vista was their choice. Well, it was released WAY too soon and now Windows 7 took its place and is the current version.

Now I have to be up front with you and state right away that this is MY OPINION ONLY and even though I have been in the computer world for about 20 years now, it is only one man's opinion.

I always choose to wait until Microsoft gets their act together before I switch over. Well to make a long story short, they never did get Vista to do what they wanted it to do so they scrapped the whole thing and came out with Windows 7 (the seventh version of Windows released). As I write this, it is now been on the market for two years and I'll have to admit that Microsoft FINALLY did it!! They actually released a new version on time and it does EVERYTHING it was advertised to do.

So what does this mean to you? It means that the "waters" are safe now with Windows 7 and the swimming is FINE! I'm really impressed with Win 7 and it really is a joy to work with.
But I am not wedded to Win 7 and if you really want a computer that has XP on it, I can do that also. However, the computer world is constantly changing and with the release of a really great operating system like Win 7, the other manufacturers are jumping on board and making things that will work best with Win 7. So I recommend Win 7 simply because it will last you longer and be more compatible for future hardware peripherals.
